New URL Router

The plan that an up-to-date Joomla URL routing system would be released along with Joomla 3.7 was cancelled, as we knew, and it is now planned for upcoming Joomla 3.8. This new router gets your SEO performance better by being equipped with user friendly URLs and page/archive addresses. This feature allows you to make a decision that content item IDs would appear in URLs or not. These IDs also can be removed absolutely from your URLs if you want. The Joomla team has mentioned some detailed information relating to the next routing system in Joomla 3.8

When you use the new router of Joomla 3.8, these below are some advances that you can have:

• Existing router                  : /article-categories/72-bakery-dairy/photo-gallery/products
• New router with IDs       : /article-categories/26-bakery-dairy/28-photo-gallery/72-products
• New router without IDs: /article-categories/bakery-dairy/photo-gallery/products

Article Page Example

• Existing router                  : /article-categories/72-bakery-dairy/photo-gallery/products/25-cakes
• New router with IDs       : /article-categories/26-bakery-dairy/28-photo-gallery/72-products/25-cakes

Orientation to Joomla 4.0

The Joomla development team also informs about Joomla 4.0 path which will be widely used and integrated with namespaced PHP codes. Namespaced class names  will be started using from Joomla 3.8, besides, existing class names will keep being supported till version Joomla 5.0. This creates a valuable chance for developers of extension or template to keep pace with new innovation constantly, meanwhile, the trip to the upcoming big thing starts here.

The plan for releasing Joomla 3.8 has been mentioned in Plan Announcement blog posts.

• Feature freeze                           : July 14, 2017
• First Joomla 3.8 beta             : Within the week of July 24, 2017
• Joomla 3.8 stable release    : Around middle of September, 2017
